Tony Snow's Debut

I've got to say, I much prefer Tony Snow to either McClellan or Fleischer. He talks a little fast, but he says a decent amount. And he doesn't just repeat the same administration-approved phrase over and over like McClellan. Also, he doesn't seem to despise the press like Fleischer. Bush's first good decision in six years.

Ok. So I missed the line about the tar baby. But at least he's entertaining...

Ok, I actually don't mind the tar baby line. The thing is, the tar baby metaphor is a really powerful one. It describes the situation where to exert any further action on something only creates more problems for you. For that situation, it's great.

Ultimately, Tony Snow saying "tar baby" does absolutely zilch with respect to equality in the US. His saying it hurts black people in no appreciable way.

I've been trolling fora for reactions to Snow's comment, and from the way it's discussed out there, you'd think he'd dropped the n bomb, or at least said "niggardly." I don't get it. Why lose such a nicely descriptive phrase?
